Indian River Preserve Honored by Audubon International

By Dave Daubert

The Jan Stephenson and Perry Dye design collaboration nestled in Mims on Florida's Space Coast, Indian River Preserve Golf Club, has been recognized as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary.

Opened in 2003, Indian River Golf Club is an exceptional 18 hole championship golf course managed by Billy Casper Golf and open to the public. Former LPGA 3-time major champion and 2019 World Golf Hall of Fame Inductee Jan Stephenson and Perry( son of Pete and Alice) Dye designed the course with a flair akin to Jan's homeland of Australia. The unique layout will satisfy any golfer's palate with its magnitude, lush rolling fairways weaving throughout the landscape incorporating serene lakes, native vegetation and wildlife. Indian River Preserve also features a fun bonus par 3, 19th hole with a green shaped like the continent of Australia, great for a post-game wager on who buys the beer.

Indian River Preserve is one of over 800 courses in the world to be designated as a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course. With this partnership, Indian River participates in numerous sustainability projects including conserving energy, reducing water usage, utilizing integrated pest management techniques, naturalizing areas and managing resources in an environmentally responsible manner.

Audubon International recognizes golf clubs who show commitment to environmental stewardship and significant efforts to maintain a comprehensive management program focused on wildlife habitat, water conservation, resources, outreach and education. After certification, the property must go through a recertification process every three years.

"We are humbled and grateful to receive this very distinguished honor from Audubon International for our efforts," said Ryan Andrews, General Manager of Indian River Golf Club. "We review all steps in maintenance and improvements to make sure they are aligned with our environmental goals and I am happy our team is being recognized for their hard work."

"Forward-thinking facilities like Indian River Preserve will be crucial for the game of golf to thrive in the 21st century," says David Evangelista,
Regional Director of Marketing. "Billy Casper Golf is thrilled to have a partner that is always becoming smarter on how to allocate environmental
resources."
